Ten North Group has played a leading role in the revitalization and preservation of Opa-locka’s extraordinary architectural and cultural heritage through the creation of the Opa-locka Heritage Trail and the Opa-locka Museum of Art & History.
Originally proposed in 2023 by preservation advocate Alex Van Mecl, the Opa-locka Heritage Trail was envisioned as an immersive outdoor historical experience highlighting the city’s nationally significant Moorish Revival architecture and founding history. Supported and championed by Ten North Group, the 15-station interpretive trail was unveiled in 2024 and has become an important educational and cultural resource for residents and visitors alike.
Building on the trail’s success, Ten North Group later received support from the Florida Division of Historical Resources to expand the initiative through oral history projects, digital storytelling, interpretive guides, and the creation of the Opa-locka Museum of Art & History within the historic 1927 Seaboard Air Line Railroad Station.
The museum’s permanent exhibition, Tales of Opa-locka: A Heritage Journey, highlights the city’s remarkable 100-year history through artifacts, archival materials, photography, and immersive storytelling.
Through these efforts, Ten North Group has demonstrated how preservation can strengthen civic pride, revitalize neighborhoods, and reconnect communities with their shared history.
