Dade Heritage Trust proudly recognizes HistoryMiami Museum for its 86 years of stewardship and for earning a once-in-a-generation distinction that places Miami on the national stage.
In 2026, HistoryMiami Museum will become one of only eight institutions in the nation selected by the National Archives and Records Administration to present original founding documents of the United States as part of the National Archives’ Documents That Forged a Nation tour during the nation’s Semiquincentennial celebration.
Founded in 1940 as a historical association, HistoryMiami Museum is Miami’s oldest continuously operating cultural institution and a Smithsonian Affiliate. For more than eight decades, the museum has collected, preserved, and shared Miami’s stories to foster learning, inspire a sense of place, and strengthen community understanding of the region’s rich and diverse history.
In a city defined by diversity and constant renewal, HistoryMiami continues to demonstrate that history belongs to everyone, connecting the community not only to the nation’s founding ideals but also to the stories, voices, and aspirations that continue to shape Miami today.
