SUMMARY:Models of Preservation Open House
DESCRIPTION:Models of Preservation: Selected Works by MDC School of Architecture Students \nExhibit Open House at Dade Heritage Trust\nThursday\, May 25\, 6-8pm\n\n“This work comes from my ARC2701 Architecture History course. The students are in their first year of architecture studies. I wanted them to better understand the implications of history in the study of architecture by having them investigate architectural relics and artifacts in their own communities and document them through graphic images\, architectural drawings and the scale models. Students were allowed to work in groups or individually. This project was also intended to introduce them to the relevance of architecture historical preservation and the work of the DHT. These students received service learning hours for their work.”\n\n-Dr. Lyle D. Culver\, Ed. D.\, M.Arch.\, MSc.\nProfessor\, MDC School of Architecture & Interior Design \nMDC Honors College\, Kendall Campus\n\nJoin us for an enjoyable evening at DHT!\n\nDade Heritage Trust works with local educational institutions\, organizations and artists to present changing exhibitions that help interpret and further our mission.

SUMMARY:Exhibit: Let Me Tell You About the Birds and the Bees
DESCRIPTION:Let Me Tell You About the Birds and the Bees \nA photography exhibit featuring Miami’s beautiful birds and gardens by Kirsten Hines \nKirsten Hines is a wildlife photographer\, writer and conservationist based in Coconut Grove. Growing up in the Philippines\, she watched metropolitan Manila engulf coastal villages and rural landscapes. As the last brilliantly colored bird from her yard fell to a stranger’s slingshot\, her love of nature transformed into a passion for environmental conservation. Drawing from this inspiration and from her education as a biologist\, Kirsten’s photography highlights nature and wildlife around the world. Her photographic collections include Nature in Abstract\, Nature and Travel\, and South Florida Birds and Gardens. \nThis exhibit features a selection of images from her award-winning books\, Birds of Fairchild and Attracting Birds to South Florida Gardens. Her goal with this collection is to provide an intimate view of the birds and plants that might be found in a South Florida garden\, to connect South Floridians to their non-human neighbors\, and to inspire them toward bird-friendly landscaping. South Florida can be “re-greened”\, one yard at a time. \nThe exhibit runs through November 15th. \n
