Founded in 1936, Miami Pioneers / Natives of Dade was created by early settlers who wished to preserve the memories and stories of Miami’s pioneer era as the city rapidly transformed into a modern metropolis.
The organization’s founders recognized the importance of honoring the individuals who helped build Miami during its earliest years, often under extraordinarily difficult conditions.
Originally, membership was limited to residents who arrived before 1900 and were at least 50 years old, making the organization highly exclusive. In 2004, the age requirement was removed to welcome descendants of pioneer families of all ages.
For 90 years, the organization has helped preserve Miami’s history and pioneer legacy through storytelling, fellowship, and community remembrance.
