2010 STUDENT ART &
PHTOGRAPHY COMPETITION


Dear Art Teachers,

Dade Heritage Trust, Miami’s largest nonprofit historic preservation organization, is sponsoring its second annual competition of student artwork and photography depicting Miami’s historic landmarks. The competition is open to all students in Miami-Dade County. There will be an Overall Winner of the contest and a First, Second and Third place finish at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

The theme this year for Dade Heritage Days is New Faces/Old Places, giving the students the freedom to incorporate people into their depiction of historic structures at least forty years old.

The winning entries will be exhibited during Dade Heritage Days, which runs from March 1st through April 30th the finalists and their schools will be recognized at Dade Heritage Trust’s Preservation Awards Ceremony, with attendant media coverage. (This year’s ceremony was held at Vizcaya Museum.) One or more of the winning entries may be featured in the Dade Heritage Days 2010 brochure, on the DHT’s website (www.dadeheritagetrust.org), and in other publications. The Overall Winner and Overall Winner’s school will receive a cash prize.

Dade Heritage Days is orchestrated by Dade Heritage Trust as a two month celebration of the architectural, environmental and cultural heritage of Miami-Dade County. Dade Heritage Trust’s mission is to preserve our community’s heritage through education, advocacy and restoration .

No more than three entries from each school should be submitted to Dade Heritage Trust (address below) by 6:00 P.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009. Public school entries may be submitted via School Mail to Mabel Morales, Art Education Program, 9607/1500 Annex, Attn. Dade Heritage Trust. The attached information must accompany the entries.

ART and PHOTOGRAPHY
CONTEST GUIDELINES

1) Please complete teacher’s inventory sheet listed under Student  Submission and Artwork Inventory List.
2) Please complete and attach student’s identification label to the back of the artwork.
3) A maximum of three pieces per teacher may be submitted
4) Work in four categories will be judged:
                                    a) Graphics (drawing, pastels, oil sticks & printmaking)
                                    b) Photography/Computer Generated Imagery
                                    c) Mixed Media
                                    d) Painting (oils, acrylics &watercolor-brushwork)
5) Artwork or photography must be no larger than 24” by 36”
6) All artwork must be matted and unframed.
7) Send artwork in a portfolio to avoid damage to the artwork.
